"The interpreter scene prior to 1964 was so vastly different from that which exists today that it is a strain on the imagination to contemplate it ... We did not work as interpreters, but rather volunteered our services as our schedules permitted. If we received any compensation it was freely given and happily accepted, but not expected." - Lou Fant, RID biographer

NIC, Test Prepartion Training

  • For the Interview portion of the NIC exam, you will need to know the how and why, of the solution in order to apply the code of professional conduct tenets to ethical scenarios, (rated by a rubric) as posted on the RID website.

  • The NIC Interview Test Preparation Training Course will teach you techniques that will help you memorize the Tenets that we will practice applying the tenets in a game like format.

  • This course meets once a week to help you prepare for the Performance portion of the NIC.

Student Testimony below

To LOVE2ASL,
I wanted to share with you the great impact your workshops have had on my interpreting skills. When I started interpreting there were not many opportunities for formal training. I was fortunate to have attended and worked at both Pierce College and Cal State University Northridge. I monitored as many classes as I could to observe other interpreters and benefit from their experience. Gratefully we had a large Deaf community in Los Angeles which I immersed myself in as much as possible.

I must say as honored as I was to have earned my CSC from RID in 1982  I was ill prepared for the many challenges in courtroom interpreting.
The many Legal Amp Courses and workshops I have taken from Juti (Love2ASL) have benefited me in a myriad of ways. First just hearing her many experiences helped me
when they appeared with my consumers and the courtroom staff.  Secondly much of the legal vocabulary that I had not found through any other resources she made available and she made herself accessible as well. I so appreciated her professionalism, integrity and honesty with what really happens in the courtroom.

During the courses having others who also contributed their experiences and sign options made me feel as if I were not alone when
faced with the joys and challenges of legal interpreting. I believe these courses and workshops have been invaluable tools and worth the financial investment to provide the
best service possible.

Sincerely,

LS Porter
