"The interpreter scene prior to 1964 was so vastly different from that which exists today that it is a strain on the imagination to contemplate it ... We did not work as interpreters, but rather volunteered our services as our schedules permitted. If we received any compensation it was freely given and happily accepted, but not expected." - Lou Fant, RID biographer

NIC GRADS...

Love2ASL Professional Development Center has graduated dozens of students from its workshops and accelerated courses, and they have gone on to take the NIC and the EIPA and passed. The reason this news is so exciting is they had either tried and not succeeded or it was their first time to sit for the exam. Either way that is fantastic. They have all said it was due to the techniques, training and encouragement of the PEP-NIC and PEP-EIPA.

Hello Juti,

I want to thank you for suggesting I take your course: NIC Interview & Performance Exam Preparation Class @ Love2ASL.com

I learned so much from you (including your techniques, your process and your information), so now I know how to study for the NIC Interview & Performance Exam.

In addition, you taught me to believe in myself as an English/Sign Language Interpreter, which is invaluable.

Thank you again,

Aaron DeGrood

Hi,

I believe that learning from an experienced and knowledgeable interpreter like Juti, who has a wealth of knowledge in everyday interpreting, that includes medical to legal and everything else you can phathom has been one of the most beneficial learning experiences I have ever had, thanks to you, Juti.

Hello,

I took the NIC and I didn't pass. What I did wrong was, I got the appointment to take the NIC and then I signed up for the PEP-NIC course, I had no idea that everything I had been practicing, I had to do differently and I learned a completely different set of tools to practice. So practice became the most important part of preparing to take the NIC.

Because I had no idea what to expect at the NIC exam, I only gave myself enough 2 weeks practice time after I took the PEP-NIC.  Juti told me if I couldn't get my money back for the airfare, the hotel, and the test, Just go in and "Act Like it Doesn't Matter"  At first I thought, how can you do that? It does matter and she said, you may pass or you may not pass its a 50/50. So if you go in there and act like its an opportunity to get a feel for what its like to sit for the NIC, and tell yourself that this is a practice test for the next time, because next time I will give myself plenty of time for the body memory to do all the work.

So my advice to you is take the PEP-NIC course, and given yourself 4-6 months of daily practice and Juti will show you how to set up your daily practice sessions, using  the special techniques Know (not memorize) the Code of Professional Conduct. We played a really cool game that helped us learn the CPC.  The next time I took the NIC, I passed at the Advanced level.  Thank you Juti, at first I wasn't a believer, but after taking the PEP-NIC, I am now!!!

Do yourself a big favor, and Take PEP-NIC first, before you make an appointment to take the NIC. After and only after you have practiced the techniques you have learned, and learned the methods and understand the goal you are expected to reach, will you have a better chance at passing the NIC the first time or the next time if you have taken it in the past.

We have had several students email us with their passing results! Some want to remain anoymous however, they have written down some of their thoughts for others to read.

Hi,

I really didn't think I would pass, I wanted to pass, but, because I only interpret in church on Sunday and some community interpreting from time to time, I thought no way can I pass, but I needed to try because I don't have a BA degree. So, I took the PEP-NIC practiced like she told us to in the PEP class, I practiced everyday for an hour, faithfully for 3 months and took the test and I passed at the NIC level.  I was thrilled because, now I will be paid to interpret for the Deaf who I work with, I work for a company that hires a lot Deaf people.

I can also, earn a few extra bucks on evenings and weekends if I feel like it and that makes it all worh it. The PEP-NIC is fantastic, I have never experienced anything like it and Juti is a fantastic teacher and she has the patience of a saint! Everything was such a positive experience and she treats you like a colleague and a friend, Thank you Juti for all you do for us.

J.J.

The most important thing you need to know about sitting for the NIC exam is, you must first know what they expect from you and then you must know how to give them what they want.

In order to give them what they want, you must first understand what it is they expect from you and once you know what they expect from you, you  must practice until it becomes an automatic response or in other words a body memory, like riding a bike or driving a car. You don't have to think about it, you just do it.

If you spend 3-6 months practicing the wrong way,  you will have to wait 6 more months before you can take the exam again. So that is almost a year of wasted time.

PEP-NIC will teach you special body and mind techniques, strengthen your sign language skills, in class and at home you will practice the mock interviews and mock sign to voice and voice to sign, you will understand exactly what they are looking for and give it to them.

Time is running out and June 30, 2012 is just around the corner, you need to prepare now and pass the test or the requirements to sit for the NIC will be increased by an important degree, a Bachelors Degree!
